A Year in Review: RCTX Highlights of 2024
As 2024 draws to a close, Retina Consultants of Texas (RCTX) is proud to reflect on a year filled with groundbreaking achievements, collaborations, and events that continue to solidify our commitment to advancing retinal care. From opening new doors in research to celebrating remarkable professional milestones, here’s a look back at some of the highlights from this incredible year.
Expanding Horizons with a New Research Center
This year, we proudly launched a state-of-the-art retina research center in Schertz, TX. This new facility serves as a hub for innovative studies aimed at improving patient outcomes and pushing the boundaries of retinal medicine.
We also were the first retina practice in the nation to treat a patient using the newly FDA-approved PavBlu, approved to treat neovascular age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD), macular edema following retinal vein occlusion, diabetic macular edema, and diabetic retinopathy. By bringing cutting-edge research closer to the communities we serve, RCTX continues to be a leader in advancing treatments for retinal diseases.
Published Works & Studies
Our physicians made notable contributions to retinal research in 2024:
- Dr. David Brown and his research team released a groundbreaking study in the RETINA journal that used retinal nerve fiber layer ocular coherence tomography to develop a clinically relevant posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) grading scale.
- Dr. Charles Wykoff was featured in Ophthalmology Times for his insights into first-time data from the phase 2, LUNA trial looking at Ixo-Vec at the annual ASRS meeting in Stockholm, Sweden.
- RCTX’s team also celebrated the publication of a pivotal study in the RETINA journal entitled “Management of Large Full-Thickness Macular Holes.”
Notable Achievements and Partnerships
RCTX physicians have been making waves beyond the clinic:
- Dr. Jeremiah Brown partnered with the Alliance Project to promote inclusive ophthalmology research, an initiative that aims to expand access and equity in clinical trials.
- Dr. Patrick Staropoli took to the road with Driving to Fight Blindness. The goal of this campaign is to connect people with eyecare providers in their communities and raise awareness and funding for critical retinal disease research.
- Several RCTX physicians were honored as Super Doctors of 2024, a recognition of their unparalleled expertise and patient care.
Engaging and Educational CE Events
Continuing our tradition of supporting referring providers, RCTX hosted a series of compelling continuing education (CE) events this year, covering a variety of fascinating topics, including:
