Original Macular Hole Surgery Study from RCTX Published in RETINA
Retina Consultants of Texas (RCTX) is excited to announce that an original study and article authored by several of our incredible doctors has been published in the most recent issue of RETINA®: The Journal of Retinal and Vitreous Diseases. Entitled “Management of Large Full-Thickness Macular Holes,” the study compared the long-term visual and anatomical outcomes for large full-thickness macular holes treated surgically with the internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique with the traditional ILM peel method.
The RCTX doctors who served as contributing co-authors of the study included:
- Dr. Charles C. Wykoff
- Dr. James C. Major, Jr.
- Dr. Tien P. Wong
- Dr. Eric Chen
- Dr. Amy C. Schefler
- Dr. Sagar B. Patel
- Dr. Rosa Y. Kim
- Dr. Christopher R. Henry
- Dr. Richard H. Fish
- Dr. David M. Brown
- Dr. Matthew S. Benz
- Dr. William A. Pearce
- Dr. Ankoor R. Shah
Reviewing initial macular hole repair cases conducted from October 2016 to July 2022, the two treatment methods were assessed for efficacy and overall outcomes. It was found that both techniques offered similar outcomes in terms of closure rate and functional vision improvement. To see our data, take a look at the abstract for the study on RETINA®’s website.
