How “Super Doctors” Are Chosen
Physicians are first selected for evaluation through an extensive vetting process that identifies healthcare professionals who have achieved many professional accomplishments and earned a high degree of respect from their peers. The candidates are nominated by their colleagues or identified by the Super Doctors research team.
Candidates are evaluated based on 10 factors:
- Years of experience
- Hospital appointments
- Fellowships
- Professional activities
- Leadership positions
- Academic achievements/positions
- Board certifications
- Publications, lectures & presentations
- Honors and awards
- Other outstanding achievements
The candidates are then evaluated by specialty in a process known as the Blue Ribbon Panel Review, in which the doctors with the absolute highest scores are asked to serve as panelists and review the nominees within their specific field. Points are calculated based on nominations, research, and the results of the Blue Ribbon Panel Review. In the end, only the top 5% of doctors within a respective region are chosen.
